Actually yeah, I tell my friends about the site and their first reaction is "...I'm not clicking on that." It's pretty funny.

I loved Bagel in Harlem but now that Rachel moved out, I moved in so now I am doing a blog and I need support as I am not sure how to get recognized. My husband and I moved up here from Sutton Place and its already been quite and adventure. SO hopefully people will look at my blog and HELP me make it GREAT.

a European Street fair for Xmas? Are you kidding me!!!! I totally have amazing plans on how to make HARLEM fun and great for all of us up here? ALL OF US? Do you mean the long time Black Harlem residents? I think it was fun and great before the displacement and destruction of Black Harlem. the sanitation on Harlem culture has begun and you are a part of it. I can never understand the compulsion of whites (Whatever you call yourselves-European etc all the same)to change their new enviornments to the places they just left! Hopefully you guys will really explore and learn about Harlem yourselves. You are not goind to get it on a blog or your protected building lobby. Black people by nature are kind to everyone. -to purge black businesses, churches, people and culture from Harlem- real estate -Knowing most black churches are cash strapped but property rich , white hound and harrass black churches to selltheir property for pennies. they corrupt a few members of the church to add more pressure to sell and move. If that doesn't work then the compromise comes-combo church and condos-sell us your air rights so we can build taller than the projects so we can sun our pale skin on the roof without the projects blocking our sun!
If that doesn't work build a church in Harlem-see the Mormons and L Ron Hubbard-(you know you saw that movie about the 9 foot aliens!)Next the whites will want their old synagauges back from the churches that bought them when they fled the urban areas.

Plenty of problems there but it is home to a lot of people who can;t afford to live anywhere else. It's not your fault Hans thay blacks live the way they do" and you move on to the New Harlem. But the projects stand in the way of the white infestation of Harlem. Thank God. Harlem Observer, I believe Ellen & the European Festival or Block party is a troll and nothing more. Your points are valid, redlining and warehousing and all sorts of racist practices from the financial sector and government have victimized Black Harlem for decades. However it must be said too many people allowed themselves and their children, and their children's children to be reliant on a "institution", be it welfare, public housing, & even public school.

When you see you're in an environment leveraged against you, or making you reliant on it, it's time to learn how to fish for yourself, instead of having fish given to you. That might mean home schooling, working extra jobs, going to night school, moving to Virginia or the Carolinas, etc. but staying in the same place, doing the same thing? That's how you guarantee generational poverty and reliance.

Everything moves forward and changes and you must too. Harlem has changed, evolved, moved forward, but too many Black Harlemites of a class and sector have not. They've made the choice to be complacent and reliant on "institutions".

It's ridiculous and absurd that everybody has to contend with housing costs in this city EXCEPT the project dwellers. I know teachers and all sorts of professional people that must face being priced out of Manhattan, no longer able to afford to rent an apartment in Harlem, etc. and have to look outside of Manhattan. Everybody has to practice a measure of fiscal prudence EXCEPT the project dwellers. They have secured prime located housing that we all subsidize and no incentive to get off the Government dole. The notion and concept of being "Priced out of Manhattan" does not exist for project dwellers. They, their kids, etc. are not better off with this haven, and allowance to not have to be connected and engaged with the real life most of us NYC citizens live.

Native Americans, Jews, Scandanavians, do you really want to get into a pissing contest on who owns Harlem? We're just seeing a changing of the guards, tha's all. There will be no little italy or even chitaly in 20 years, it will be all Chinatown, case in point.

You are too reactionary. Many of people moving into Harlem are not rich and do not want to sanitize it. Many are working and middle class black people as well. As many in this post have stated - move on already.

I must admit I moved here a few years ago and am still taken aback with the littering on our supposedly worshiped and glorified area that is the capital of black culture. Where is your outrage to your own community trashing Harlem? It is horrendous. Not a day goes by I don't see someone throw trash on the street or pee on stairs, etc. And the Historic Parks here a treasure - Barbequing on lawns and burning grass, trashing and not picking up after themselves.

Start with changing this existing culture of disrespect of Harlem instead of your rascist infused rants against whites.

YES!!! I moved to Harlem a little over a year ago and I love the mix of cultures up here. I really want to enjoy this beautiful, diverse part of NYC but there are frustrations with the lack of services! I am not rich. But I work hard and make a good salary and I am willing to spend my money in Central Harlem but there are very few businesses that I connect with. I do not eat fast food or greasy friend food. It is killing the residents of Harlem. I would love to sit outside somewhere and read the paper and enjoy a good, healthy meal. (I do not have hair so I cannot try the bizzilion hair weaving shops)...My biggest complaint is that the project culture defends economic sickness. Self-improvement comes from contributing not taking....and that is not a truism of race but of the human spirit.

We as black people need to clean our own house first before we worry about white people or whomever moves to Harlem. I seen black neighborhoods all over the country and one thing I know for sure is we need to take pride & appreciation in our own communities. I do not feel threatened at all when white people move in and neither should you. Life is all about change and if you stay stagnant you will lose out on what this country is all about. We need to compete with all races and to teach our children to strive to be the best in whatever you do. I have no problem in helping senior citizens & handicapped people but i'm not helping able body people who can get out there and work just like I. Where is our pride at and one thing nobody likes is a complainer. There is nothing stopping black people from getting together and forming investment groups or companies. Ladies & Gentlemen lets compete and Kick some Ass!!!!
