It's actually funny that the welfare class can hold up CU development & expansion. When you look at how top tier universities have to compete with each other, CU expansion is a must or it's relevance will decline on the scholastic/research map. When you look at the revenue streams that follow major university expansion, how they're captured, it's a no brainer.

The blunt truth is the welfare class, public housing dwellers have no right to location. Everything changes and goes forward, just because you were given citizen subsidized housing in 1970 at location X does not mean you're entitled to enjoy that benefit at that location forever.

The public housing people are the only ones in Manhattan safe and immune from potentially getting priced out of Manhattan, isn't that nice. Working people have to exercise fiscal responsibility and often have to relocate.

I say give the public housing people a choice, pay market for the dwelling you enjoy in Manhattan or move to new public housing built in Yonkers or the like. Why? You're too costly to the citizens in that your rent is $200 and you pay no Con Ed and citizens basically pay for both, plus you're blocking development. It's a major lose lose for everyone including the public housing resident who has no incentive to learn how to fish, when they're given fish.

Even the US Post Office is planning on moving most of it's operations from 34th St. Why? The land is too valuable for other uses than to sort US Mail. That task can be done outside of Manhattan while that land can be more productive for the City.

Everybody has to face reality, exercise fiscal responsibility, except the welfare class, they're protected from real life, now they've got the nerve to raise hell against CU?

I cannot understand this myself and am very close to starting a "Go Columbia" counter group supporting all of Columbia's plans. There is a total of 134 apartments being displaced. In Columbia's plans they will be relocated to better housing and away from a bus depot! These people ARE crazy. The amount of jobs this development will bring to the area is insane. Yet, the crackheads are there screaming that they want Harlem to remain for druggies and welfare mothers. Well - guess what. You are OUT! Welcome to America and a capitalist society. If you don't like it move to South America.
