Lost Cat Found UPDATE: Story In The Comments Section

Cat_SylvieAndKitten.jpgSylvie, the silver mother cat who was missing after escaping from her carrier on the way back from the vet, has returned. She is now safe in her apartment with her kitten. Her owners, who rescued them off of the street, are looking for a good home to place them in, together.

Both cats are very sweet. Winnie's 2 year old daughter hugs and kisses them and the kitten sits on her lap. Additionally, they are both neutered/spayed and have their shots. If you are interested in adopting the pair, please call Winnie at 646-425-5946.

And speaking of not feeling comfortable when one's pet is not around, I read this story today in amNewYork:

A southwest Missouri woman has asked the Springfield-Greene County Health Department to allow her to take her pet monkey into local restaurants as a service animal.

Debby Rose, of Springfield, says Richard, her bonnet macaque monkey, provides emotional support that allows her to overcome an anxiety disorder and go out in public places such as restaurants...

Family members said Rose's anxiety is disabling. Without her monkey, she's less able to manage normal tasks, such as grocery shopping and dining out because of severe anxiety.

I wonder what dining out with a bonnet macaque monkey would be like?

Debbie leans in close and softy says "Richard, I am so glad you could come out with me. You know how afraid I am."

Richard takes her hand in his two and looks at her. "Debbie, where else would I want to be tonight?" he asks in the way only he can.

She used to find his touch uncomfortable, as if he was aping her. Now, after all this time, she realizes he has no opposable thumb, and welcomes his simian caress. With her hand in his, Debbie relaxes, not knowing if the warm feeling on her face is from the macaque's calm reassurance or the small table candle now close to her chin.

"Sometimes," he says to her, "I feel scared or angry at the world. I want to jump up and down, bare my teeth, grab a handful of my own feces and smear it on the wall. But I don't, because I stay strong Debbie. I know you can too."

"Oh Richard."

Or maybe not. Anyway, here is a nice picture of a bonnet macaque.

Yay!!!

i second that yay! what's the story? how'd they find her?

One day my daughter and I heard little baby kitten meows from our bedroom window. Sylvie decided to have her two babies in our next-door neighbors back yard. It became clear they didn't want the kitties and I was worried about them so we started to feed them. For a while they disappeared and only the mama cat came to eat sometimes. Finally one day, both the mama and only one of the babies came over to our yard. I'm still very sad to think that one of the kittens who was very dark and stripy and looked like the daddy cat was lost. That kitten also happened to look like one of our cats who just died in March. Anyway, we continued to feed them and befriended the mama and kitten. We named the mama Sylvie because shes a beautiful silver cat and the kitten Baby. We really wanted to find them a home - especially before it got cold. So we finally brought them inside and took them to the vet to take care of all their shots and get fixed so they would be all ready for a new home. I think they are quite happy to be inside. Unfortunately, they have to stay in one of our small bathrooms since for a few reasons we cant let them roam the whole apartment. But we visit them all the time to feed, hug and pet. Our daughter especially loves these cats and plays with them all the time! The kitties are so incredibly nice to her and put up with all her singing (Kavita likes to sing "wheels on the bus" and "if you're happy and you know it" to them). Sylvie is especially sweet and loves to be petted although she is still a little shy. Her coat has become considerably more soft and shiny now that she is inside and eating more. Baby is a little more rambunctious and would rather be playing all the time! So thats the story! We are actively trying to find them a home so if you know of anyone who would love and care for them in their home please let us know. Also wed be happy to invite anyone over for a visit to check the kitties out. Thanks for your interest and help!! Winnie, Sushil & Kavita

Hey - somehow I missed this "lost cat update" posting the first time around. The dramatic rendering of the date between Richard and Debbie - I loved it! I think that's the first time I ever saw you write fiction. Except of course for the time you portrayed me as a capable person on the millionaire episode. You're very good. Maybe there's a career in writing somewhere waiting for you.
