Elle & Lui Is A Real Moroccan Delight
Last Saturday, when I was walking Scott's dog to Morningside Park, I passed Elle & Lui, a Moroccan restaurant on 119th Street between Frederick Douglass and Adam Clayton Powell Boulevards.
Cheryl and I decided to stop in tonight, and it was the best random decision we have made in a long time. The place looks great, and the food was incredible. Elle & Lui is worth it for the hummus alone, and they have a hookah if you decide to stick around.
I have photos of the interior and our excellent dinner after the jump.
Inside, Elle & Lui has exposed brick walls, Moroccan architectural accents, and a full bar complete with couches and a hookah. All food is prepared on the premises.
Much to my surprise, the place has an effortless vibe; it does not feel forced.

We started off with an assortment of four salads. Although each of the four was expertly prepared, Cheryl and I both found the hummus to be some of the best we have ever had. When we asked the chef if he would be willing to sell containers of hummus, he said he would be.

For her entree, Cheryl had the Steamed Floral Couscous, rolled semolina topped with chicken and seasoned vegetables, chick peas and raisins in a savory broth.

I ordered the Fragrant Lamb Tangines, a braised leg of lamb in honey nutmeg sauce with caramelized prunes, roasted almonds and sesame seeds.

The meat in both of our dishes was exceptionally tender.
In all, we were very impressed with the food and service, and we look forward to going back.
