Cat Vs. Dog In The Park: A Dog- Romeo

About a week ago I took my cat and Scott's dog to the park for a cat versus dog in the park comparison. The basic conclusion was that outside of central Park's Great Lawn, the cat stands a good chance of being eaten, and Scott's dog is nuts (in a good way), and further research on the dog end of things was needed.

So I ran into my neighbor in the elevator a few days ago as she was coming back from walking her and her boyfriend's one-year-old Boxer. After the obligatory exchange of hellos, I quickly asked between floors if I could walk her dog and we agreed on Sunday.

On Sunday I stopped by, and within the first five minutes found Romeo sitting on top of my head nibbling my ear, serious. Although this did not bode well, Romeo snapped to attention as soon as we were out of the apartment.

So the lesson to be learned last time was that there should be no switching up of parks in this ongoing experiment (the cat went to Marcus Garvey Park, and the dog to Morningside Park). For the sake of keeping variables under control, I deiced to take Romeo to Morningside Park as well.

The lesson to be learned this time is that one should make sure one charged the camera battery before going out. I snapped the photo of Romeo in his home, and then the camera went dead. Being on a tight schedule, I switched over to the camera on my phone. What the shots lack in resolution, they make up for in action. Kinda.

The photos should show that Romeo in the Morningside Park dog run was all the messy fun I wanted it to be. From his apartment, Romeo bee-lined, undistracted, straight for the dog run, waited patiently at the gate for me to remove his leash, and then spent 45 minutes acting like a dog should. He rolled in the dirt, grappled spiritedly with the other dogs, and played fetch with an orange ball, quickly covering it in slobber and mud.

Unfortunately, I had other obligations that day, or I would have tried introducing Romeo to Cimbi, as pet compatibility will play a huge roll in determining which dog we get. Maybe next weekend.
